Issue No. 1: Memorable Rail Photography and Artist Gil Reid

The first issue of Railroad Heritage introduces the Center for Railroad Photography & Art and the long relationship between railroads and the visual arts in an editorial by John Gruber, the Center’s principal founder. He also spotlights selections from the Center’s first traveling photography exhibition and profiles artist Gil Reid. Art Miller, archivist at Lake Forest College, explores the photo archives of their Donnelley Railroad Collection. Additional stories look at Limited train booklets, a famous Chicago & North Western photograph, styles and streamlining of diesels (and some of the artwork used to portray them).
