John Gruber then presents the award-winning photograph “Spirit of Transportation” from 1918 by King Daniel Ganaway, a Black photographer in Chicago. Gruber also examines the corporate photography of William Maurice Rittase, best known for his work for the Chesapeake & Ohio. Other articles look at a Nickel Plate Road painting by Bob Lorenz, the industrial design of Raymond E. Patten, and Esther Bubley’s photo archive. Gregory Ames concludes the issue with his “Diary of a Wartime Boxcar.”
